Everyone is familiar with pharmaceutical drugs; however, they may not realize what challenges biotech companies face to put them on the market. There has always been a challenge of finding venture capitalists and companies, who are willing to take on the risk of promoting the drugs, but the problem has become worse today. These companies are in business to make money, and when the economy is in a recession that is a tough task. A lot of these companies require funding from venture capitalists to even begin producing pharmaceutical drugs. Companies have to find a way to continue producing products, or the industry will be in big trouble.
The pharmaceutical industry has always thrived on the production of new drugs. People, as well as physicians, are constantly looking for solutions to assist with illnesses and diseases. However, if the venture capitalists do not have the funding to back companies, it will be hard to continue the production of new medicines. Now, people in the pharmaceutical industry are wondering how secure their jobs will be in the future, and customers are wondering if their disease will ever have a cure. This is not a good scenario for either side of the spectrum, as a lot of people require prescriptions to function on a daily basis and the industry provides work for a lot of people.
If the industry does not straighten out, there will be hundreds of thousands of people unemployed. Some of these people work on the business side of things, which could allow them to find work elsewhere. However, the majority of biotechnology companies have employees actually working in the research area. If these biotech research employees only have experience in the medical field, they may be in a little trouble. Some biotechnology companies have already laid off employees, as they are beginning to outsource as much work as possible. They believe outsourcing is the last resort to continue producing new products.
People can only hope that this industry will cycle back around in the near future. This is one of the biggest industries in the world; therefore, it has a major effect on the economy. Many people likely think that they are getting what they deserve, as their products are notorious for being highly priced. The company has to markup their products to recover the huge amount they have invested, so they are not actually ripping people off. This industry contributes tons of money in taxes each year, which is vital to the economy.
